About Us
McCoy Auction Company was established in 1949 by Everett McCoy in HaywardCalifornia. He and his young family had just emigrated from Minnesota where he was an established auctioneer. Originally McCoys sold by auction used household items and other general merchandise. Everett passed away in the 1960’s and his son Duane began to run the auction. Duane, like his dad before him, was well known for his honesty and integrity with both consignors and customers. In the early 1970’s, as flea markets and swap meets became more common, Duane decided to make the switch from general merchandise to antiques and collectibles. Duane hired Rick Yorgason as an auction helper in 1977. McCoy Auction Company moved to NewarkCalifornia in the early 1980’s and shortly after that opened a second auction house in SacramentoCalifornia. Rick was instructed by Duane in the art of auctioneering and became an auctioneer and the manager of the Sacramento location. In 1989 Duane sold the Sacramento location to Rick. A few years later Duane, deciding to retire from the auction business, sold the Newark location to Rick and Shane (Rick’s brother and new partner). Rick and Shane ran both locations and strived to keep the high standards of service and integrity set by the McCoys. Shane retired and Rick reduced the auction to just the Sacramento location. In 2007 Rick thought that he would join his brother in retirement, but found he missed the antique business. So Rick and his wife Melinda decided to start an online antique store and auction with the goal of bringing fine antiques and collectibles directly to the public at discount prices.
